Marine & Structural Engineering Leader W. J. Castle P.E. & Associates, P.C. Featured in Latest Issue of Underwater Magazine, the Official Publication of the Association of Diving Contractors International

Hainesport, New Jersey – February 20, 2014 – W. J. Castle P.E. & Associates, P.C. one of the nation’s leading marine and structural engineering firms, is featured in two articles in the latest issue of Underwater Magazine, the official publication of the Association of Diving Contractors International.

In a feature on underwater cameras and video systems, W. J. Castle’s work at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland is highlighted.  Company engineer Steve Gardner noted that they were working under the Nimitz Library to document the condition of pile caps and grade beams supporting the building, to develop a repair strategy, and needed high-quality video footage of the structure to share with the key decision-makers.  W.J. Castle utilized the JW Fishers MC-1 mini-camera with internal high-intensity LED ring light, a compact unit easily attached to the diver’s full face mask.

A second feature in the January/February 2014 issue of Underwater Magazine focused on W. J. Castle and their affiliate Hydro Marine Construction utilizing side scan sonar, when they were contracted to rehabilitate the Cheesequake Creek Bridge on Route 35 in Middlesex County, New Jersey.  The work involved installation of new jackets and armor units.  A side scan sonar survey of the main channel revealed a previously-unknown utility pipe adjacent to the bridge that was partially uncovered and slightly undermined.  Performing these surveys helped W.J. Castle provide the client with a detailed record of the installation of scour countermeasures, including images of the underwater structures before and after the work was completed.
