Indiana Tech Welcomes ESPN Founder Bill Rasmussen Thursday, October 21st as Guest Speaker in University Forum Series

Fort Wayne, Indiana – October 19, 2010 – Indiana Tech will host Bill Rasmussen, the legendary entrepreneur who founded ESPN, as the next guest speaker in their University Forum series, on Thursday, October 21st at 5:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, at the Magee-O'Connor Theater on the Indiana Tech campus.

Rasmussen launched ESPN, the world’s first 24-hour cable TV network, in 1979 and has been called “The Father of Cable Sports” by USA Today. He was named to “The Sports 100,” a ranking of the most important people in American sports history by author Brad Herzog. He also was honored by Sports Illustrated as one of “Forty for the Ages,” a 1994 list of 40 people who significantly altered the world of sports.

“Sports Junkies Rejoice: The Birth of ESPN,” Rasmussen’s first-person tale of the network’s first year, was recently released in paperback.

Rasmussen is a U.S. Air Force veteran and earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from DePauw University and an MBA from Rutgers University.

The Indiana Tech University Forum speaker series features a special guest each semester. Previous University Forum speakers include Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Charlie Savage; retired rear admiral David Nash; founder and CEO of AIT Laboratories Dr. Michael Evans; former IU football coach Bill Mallory; the Rev. Rick Hawks; and Hermene Hartman, president and CEO of Hartman Publishing Group, Inc.

While Rasmussen is in Fort Wayne, the Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce will host a private evening with Rasmussen for members of the Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce CEO Roundtables as well as the Chamber’s Board of Directors on Wednesday, October 20th. Earlier in the day on Thursday, October 21st, Rasmussen will deliver a keynote address at the 17th Annual CEO Forum at the Keith Busse School of Business and Entrepreneurial Leadership at the University of Saint Francis, at 8:30 a.m.
The forum, entitled “Taking your Business to the Next Profitable Level,” also features a keynote from Bill Polian, president of the 2007 Super Bowl Champion Indianapolis Colts.
