International Society for Medical Publication Professionals: Chief Operating Officer


Briarcliff Manor, NY - July 2, 2012 - The International Society for Medical Publication Professionals (ISMPP; www.ismpp.org) is seeking a full-time Chief Operating Officer (COO).

ISMPP was founded in 2005 to represent medical publication professionals from all sectors of medical publishing, including pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical device companies, medical publications and communications agencies, journal publishers and editors, academic research, and related fields. 

ISMPP is the only not-for-profit organization representing medical publication professionals worldwide.
With a membership of over 1,000 and representatives across the United States, Europe, and Asia-Pacific, ISMPP is the leading organization for this specialized profession, and is growing at a rapid pace. Annual professional meetings are currently held in the US and Europe.
ISMPP has a large volunteer membership that is active in many areas of importance to medical publication professionals, including advocacy, ethics and standards, professional credentialing and development, education, research, and outreach and coalitions.

The COO is a unique position that will provide strategic leadership for ISMPP during its next phase of growth. The COO position provides an exceptional opportunity for an experienced medical publication professional to represent his/her profession at the highest level. The COO will be responsible for setting and implementing the strategic goals and vision of the Society and for ensuring the Society meets established milestones for ongoing development, growth, and success. The COO will report to the Chair of the ISMPP Board of Trustees, and will undertake his/her responsibilities with guidance and governance from the Board of Trustees.

The ISMPP COO is a full-time, home-office based position, with line management of 5-6 staff working in a virtual office environment. Applicants should have a minimum of 10 years of experience in the medical publications/communications profession, with a minimum of 5 years in an executive leadership position, including financial accountability and direct line management of staff. The successful applicant will have exceptional oral and written skills, experience working in a global environment, and at least an undergraduate degree.
