Briarcliff Manor, NY -- January 19, 2011 -- Membership in the International Society for Medical Publication Professionals (ISMPP) surpassed the 1,000 mark in December 2010.
ISMPP President Julia Ralston expressed her delight at the way the organization has grown in such a short time. ISMPP was formed in 2005 with the aim of advancing the medical publication profession through education and advocacy; driving integrity, excellence, and transparency in medical publications; and leading the establishment and adoption of medical publication standards and best practices.
ISMPP is the only not-for-profit organization founded by medical publication professionals for medical publication professionals, and its international membership is drawn from stakeholders around the world involved in the publication of medical research, including pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and device companies, medical journal publishers and editors, and publication planning professionals and professional medical writers.
“The rate at which ISMPP has grown since its inception is no surprise considering the unique level of passion demonstrated by our members for their professional space,” Kimberly Goldin, ISMPP Executive Director. “As such, the society has built a robust and energetic volunteer corps, enabling the organization to keep up with the growing number of initiatives compelled by our mission. ISMPP’s strength today is a direct testament to the commitment of its volunteers.”
Education is a core component of the ISMPP Mission and key learning opportunities for members come in the form of an Annual Meeting as well as the ISMPP Education Committee’s ‘ISMPP U’ offering, a series of Web-based seminars on a wide range of topics presented by leaders in the field.
Members also receive the ISMPP’s quarterly publications The MAP, which presents news, views, and topical commentaries on many aspects of interest to medical publication professionals. Other member benefits include a Searchable Member Database, ISMPP Job Board, and Discussion Board.
Members are encouraged to attain the highest standards for professional ethics and practices, and ISMPP advocates that all of its representatives act in a manner that promotes integrity and reflects positively on the individual professional, ISMPP, and the medical publication profession, consistent with accepted ethical and legal principles. These principles are outlined in the recently updated ISMPP voluntary Code of Ethics, which serves as a professional resource for medical writers and communicators, publication planners, editors, publishers, and other professions that ISMPP members represent.
