Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce Hosts a Private Evening with ESPN Founder Bill Rasmussen Wednesday, October 20th

Fort Wayne, Indiana – October 13, 2010 – Next Wednesday evening, October 20th, the Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce will host a private evening with ESPN Founder Bill Rasmussen for members of the Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce CEO Roundtables as well as the Chamber’s Board of Directors.

The evening event at the Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce headquarters (826 Ewing St, Fort Wayne, IN 46802) includes a cocktail reception beginning at 5 p.m. Rasmussen will speak at 5:30 p.m., with a question and answer session to follow.

On September 7, 1979, ESPN went on the air for the first time. Entrepreneurial daring, irrepressible enthusiasm and a dash of good luck gave the world the first 24-hour television network. Once unleashed upon sports fans, ESPN’s impact forever changed the way we watch television. The man who had the dream, the founder of ESPN, is Bill Rasmussen.

A life-long entrepreneur and sports fan, Rasmussen is also the author of “Sports Junkies Rejoice! The Birth of ESPN,” recently published in a new paperback edition. The book gives an inside account from the man who changed the landscape of television and sports forever. Imagine a world without ESPN, without 24-hour television channels, and a world of only three television networks. That was the way of the world before Rasmussen’s revolutionary brainstorm, born of adversity and launched despite the odds.

Named “The Father of Cable Sports” by USA Today, Rasmussen was named to The Sports 100, honoring the 100 most important people in American Sports History. His place in sports history was further recognized by Sports Illustrated in 1994, when he was honored as one of the “Forty for the Ages,” one of 40 individuals who has significantly altered and elevated the world of sport.

Rasmussen is a gifted raconteur and a popular public speaker discussing American entrepreneurship and the birth of ESPN. He is also a frequent guest on radio and television shows around the country, and is continuing a speaking tour that over the last year has included engagements at Princeton University, the University of Florida, the Center for Sports Leadership at Virginia Commonwealth University and the 2010 Maastricht Institute of Entrepreneurship at Missouri Valley College.

While in Fort Wayne, Rasmussen will also deliver a keynote address at the 17th Annual CEO Forum at the Keith Busse School of Business and Entrepreneurial Leadership at the University of Saint Francis on Thursday, October 21st. Later that day, Rasmussen will address students and faculty at the Indiana Institute of Technology.

The Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce, which dates back to 1875, represents Fort Wayne, Allen County and Northeast Indiana. Additional information about the non-profit organization is available at http://www.fwchamber.org/.
