Wilmington, Delaware – April 1, 2008 – The award-winning Health & Wellness Center by Doylestown Hospital has been purchased by Anchor Health Properties, the developer of the facility, and a joint venture partner. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Anchor, which has established a distinguished national track record for bringing the strengths of the retail experience to the healthcare consumer and their communities, was the original developer of the facility and has been the Property Manager at the Health & Wellness Center since it opened to the public in the summer of 2001.
“With the Health & Wellness Center, Doylestown Hospital wanted an outpatient building that would open new markets and increase market share,” said Paula Crowley, Chief Executive Officer of Anchor. “The project has succeeded far beyond expectations, notably with first-year revenues that outpaced projections by nearly seven times. Since it opened in 2001, patient satisfaction scores are consistently very high. Now, with our ownership of the Health & Wellness Center, we will provide the physician tenants with the opportunity to invest in the building.”
“The building has been an overwhelming success in meeting its mission and continues to be very well recognized,” said Scott Levy, Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at Doylestown. “We first became familiar with Anchor Health Properties through the development of the center almost a decade ago. From the beginning, it was obvious that Anchor was more than simply a partner to build projects. The company understood the culture of Doylestown and what we wanted.”
The 120,000 square foot Health & Wellness Center includes hospital outpatient services, physician office suites and amenities such as a fitness center, café, pharmacy and spa that complement the project’s healing environment. There are also healing gardens and a labyrinth, a wellness boutique, traditional and auditorium style conference space. The Health & Wellness Center has become a landmark in the community over the past seven years, with the building hosting not only health and wellness seminars but also weddings, parties and other special events for the community.
“The project’s success stems from the right mix of services, which have been merchandised under Anchor’s guidance for maximum impact,” Crowley said. “Orthopedics, cardiac rehab and physical therapy are integrated with a community fitness center, generating both cost savings and additional revenues. Pediatric medical and dental care share child-minding and waiting space in a family-friendly arrangement.”
The services at the Health & Wellness Center flow together in surroundings designed according to feng shui principles, with plenty of natural light. A central atrium with a koi pond and waterfall flows to an interior garden, bringing soothing grace to the surroundings.
