NBA Hall of Famer Billy Cunningham Visits Propulsion Media Labs for 4th Consecutive Year Recording PSAs for Jerry Segal Classic
Malvern, PA – August 3, 2007 – Voted one of the greatest players in the history of the National Basketball Association, Hall of Famer Billy Cunningham recently recorded a series of public service announcements (PSAs) at Propulsion Media Labs. The PSAs, on behalf of the 18th annual Jerry Segal Classic, benefiting patients of Magee Rehabilitation Hospital, will begin airing on Philadelphia-area radio stations in early August.
The Jerry Segal Classic is the Philadelphia region’s largest single-day charity golf event, and is slated for Friday, September 28, 2007 at The ACE Club and Green Valley Country Club, both located in Lafayette Hill, PA. The Segal Classic has raised more than $6.2 million over the past 17 years. Magee Rehabilitation Hospital, a founding member of the Jefferson Health System, opened in 1958 as the Philadelphia region's original provider of physical and cognitive rehabilitation. This is the fourth consecutive year Cunningham has utilized the resources of Propulsion Media Labs, a leading national media production agency specializing in television and radio advertising production. Cunningham (pictured at left with Propulsion senior audio producer Tom Trzesniowski at right) is a friend of Propulsion’s president and owner, Chris Craft.
Cunningham, who excelled both as a player and a coach of the Philadelphia 76ers, was part of two NBA championship teams. As a player, he was a member of the powerful 1967 NBA Champion 76ers, and he coached the 76ers to the 1983 NBA title. Among his numerous career achievements, Cunningham was named to the 1966 NBA All-Rookie Team and three All-NBA First Teams. In 1972-73, he was named the Most Valuable Player of the American Basketball Association and he scored 18 points in the ABA All-Star Game.
Cunningham’s list of honors continued in 1986 when he was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts. In 1990 he was one of the 10 initial inductees to the New York City Basketball Hall of Fame, and in 1996 he was named to the NBA 50th Anniversary All-Time Team. He also became an NBA broadcaster on national television and later a part-owner of the Miami Heat.
