Philadelphia, PA -- December 20, 2010 – The Schuylkill Navy has selected Jim DeLorenzo of Jim DeLorenzo Public Relations as their public relations agency of record for the upcoming Philadelphia Classic Regatta Series.
The Schuylkill Navy, founded in 1858, is the oldest amateur athletic governing body in the United States, and comprises the 12 rowing clubs of Philadelphia’s historic Boathouse Row along the Schuylkill River.
“Jim DeLorenzo brings a love of sports and competition along with experience not only in public relations but in business strategy that we believe will be integral to the success of the inaugural season of the Philadelphia Classic Regatta Series,” said John Hogan, Commodore of the Schuylkill Navy. “We are counting on him not only to spread the word about our events and our historic legacy, but also to attract corporate sponsorships and business partners that will enhance the future growth of the Philadelphia Classic Regatta Series.”
Earlier this year, the Schuylkill Navy joined forces with 22 of the regattas held on the Schuylkill each season to create the nation’s first season-long series, the Philadelphia Classic Regatta Series, which will officially begin in 2011.
The Philadelphia Classic Regatta Series will run from March through November, and it is estimated that over 35,000 competitors in over 7,700 boats will be represented with high school, college, club, open and masters programs.
“I am honored by the opportunity to work with the Schuylkill Navy to bring greater attention to this world-class confederation of 22 of the country’s best rowing events in the Philadelphia Classic Regatta Series,” said DeLorenzo.
Philadelphia’s historic Schuylkill River hosts more regattas each year than any other river in the country, including the second-largest regatta in the nation, the Stotesbury Cup Regatta, which is also the nation’s oldest. It is also the largest high school regatta in the country.
In addition to the Stotesbury Cup, the Philadelphia Classic Regatta Series includes two more of the largest regattas in the Mid-Atlantic region, the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta with over 5,000 competitors; and the Philadelphia Scholastic Rowing Association Championship with more than 2,500 competitors.
“We are excited to have a proven public relations partner like Jim DeLorenzo join us to enhance our efforts in the community and with potential business partners,” said Clete Graham, chair of the Philadelphia Classic Regatta Series advisory committee and past commodore of the Schuylkill Navy.
A lifelong resident of the Delaware Valley, DeLorenzo has operated his own firm, Jim DeLorenzo Public Relations, since July 1999, serving small businesses, start-ups and entrepreneurs with clients in a diverse variety of industries
No stranger to the world of sports, DeLorenzo has worked with a number of sports figures and properties over the past decade, including former Philadelphia Phillies slugger Greg "The Bull" Luzinski and Baseball Hall of Famers George Brett and Dave Winfield, among others.
In addition to the Schuylkill Navy and the Philadelphia Classic Regatta Series, DeLorenzo currently counts among his clients ESPN Founder Bill Rasmussen and Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer. Additionally, he represents Philadelphia’s leading independent janitorial services provider, Team Clean (also the region’s leading minority owned and woman-owned business) and other clients both locally and nationally in tech, financial services and professional services.
Before starting his own firm, DeLorenzo was the Director of Public Relations for US Interactive, Inc. (1997-1999). During his tenure with this pioneering Internet strategic consulting firm DeLorenzo was an integral part of the senior management group that grew the company from 35 employees in two cities, to over 250 employees in five cities, and completed a successful initial public offering.
Previously, he was Publicist for an International men's senior tennis circuit, the Champions Tour, which featured Jimmy Connors, Bjorn Borg, John McEnroe and other legendary tennis champions.
DeLorenzo's public relations career began at Villanova University, where he capped his 11-year tenure with the Wildcats' Athletic Department as their Sports Information Director/Director of Media Relations from 1990 through 1995. He directed all public relations and other marketing efforts for this historic NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletic program with 24 men's and women's teams. His wide-range of responsibilities also included game-day arena management strategies, media campaigns, direct mail, media relations, event production, and game day operations in press box, pressroom, stadiums and arenas both on and off campus.
The Philadelphia Classic Regatta Series debut season launches March 20, 2011 with the first of the five Manny Flick Regattas for high school competitors. Additional information about the Schuylkill Navy and the Philadelphia Classic Regatta Series is available at http://boathouserow.org, with a current schedule of regattas available at http://www.boathouserow.org/sked11.html.

International Society for Medical Publication Professionals (ISMPP) Releases Updated Code of Ethics

December 20, 2010 – Briarcliff Manor, NY - The International Society for Medical Publications Professionals (ISMPP) has released a newly updated ISMPP Code of Ethics.
Revisions to the Code were undertaken by the ISMPP Ethics Committee to ensure that the ethical principles governing the conduct of medical publications professionals remain up to date and consistent with evolving perspectives on the profession.
While the ethical principles underpinning the medical publication profession have not changed since the Code was first released in 2007, the Ethics Committee determined that the document could be strengthened by making a number of key additions and amendments:
• The Code now refers to Ethics Principles governing ISMPP member conduct rather than Guidelines, which could be perceived as optional or less definitive.
• The wording of the Code has been strengthened throughout so that the ethical principles are stated more definitively; for example, wording such as "avoid" and "refrain from" has been replaced by words such as "oppose".
• The revised Code adopts a more positive tone, with listing ethical principles that ISMPP would like to encourage first and unethical conduct that ISMPP wishes to discourage listed towards the end of each section.
• A new subsection on ethical principles underpinning publication planning activities has been included.
ISMPP will host a webinar for its membership on January 20, 2011 in order to provide further details regarding the Code update and explain how members can act as advocates for the revised document.
“It is very timely for ISMPP to release this updated code, which continues to raise the bar and calls upon publication professionals to think about how they can more actively encourage others at act in accord with the highest ethical standards,” according to Julia Ralston, President of ISMPP.
ISMPP developed the Code of Ethics to serve as a professional resource for publication planners, medical writers and communicators, editors, publishers, and other professionals that ISMPP members represent. The updated Code has been released as part of ISMPP's continuing mission to drive integrity, excellence, and transparency in medical publications.
The updated ISMPP Code of Ethics is available for download at www.ismpp.org, under the ISMPP Policies and Publications tab.
About the International Society for Medical Publication Professionals: ISMPP is an independent non-profit professional association with members from the pharmaceutical, medical device, and biotechnology industries; publication planning and medical communication companies; academia; and medical journal staff, including editors and publishers. Its goals are to support the educational needs of medical publication professionals and to develop best practices that ensure the rigorous maintenance of all ethical standards for reporting results of medical research. Additional information about ISMPP is available by contacting the organization's Executive Director, Kimberly Goldin (phone: 914-945- 0507; email: kgoldin@ismpp.org), or online at http://www.ismpp.org/.

This Holiday Season, Make Your Sports Junkie Rejoice with Sports Junkies Rejoice! The Birth of ESPN by ESPN Founder Bill Rasmussen

Philadelphia, PA -- December 8, 2010 -- During this holiday season, families and friends gather together to worship, to celebrate, and, in many cases, watch sports on television. For true “sports junkies,” the inside story of the beginning of ESPN is now available in a new paperback edition that makes a great holiday gift.
“Sports Junkies Rejoice! The Birth of ESPN” is the inside story of how ESPN came to be, by the man who had the dream, the founder of ESPN, Bill Rasmussen. It is available at bookstores everywhere, including Amazon.com and through ESPNFounder.com.
“Only Bill Rasmussen can take you back, back, back, back to the beginning of the greatest success story in the history of sports television,” said longtime ESPN anchor Chris Berman. “His ideas, his enthusiasm, his fierce determination and belief in success changed the way we all watch television and televised sports today.”
Some of the secrets revealed in Rasmussen’s book include the circumstances under which he had the inspiration for ESPN, how he financed the first few months of the company, how many times people told him “no” along the way, and, perhaps the biggest mystery, why ESPN is based in Bristol, Connecticut.
“Sports Junkies Rejoice! The Birth of ESPN” is Rasmussen’s personal account of the launch of the Worldwide Leader in Sports. On September 7, 1979, ESPN went on the air for the first time. Entrepreneurial daring, irrepressible enthusiasm and a dash of good luck gave the world the first 24-hour television network. Once unleashed upon sports fans, ESPN’s impact forever changed the way we watch television.
Rasmussen’s book gives sports fans the real insider’s account from the man who changed the landscape of television and sports forever. Imagine a world without ESPN, without 24-hour television channels, and a world of only three television networks. That was the television landscape before Rasmussen’s revolutionary brainstorm, born of adversity and launched despite the odds.
Named “The Father of Cable Sports” by USA Today, Rasmussen was profiled as one of the 100 most important people in American sports history in “The Sports 100,” and honored as one of the “40 for the Ages” who significantly altered and elevated the world of sport by Sports Illustrated.
